How Energy Healers Can Grow Their Businesses

The first step in helping your business grow, no matter what it is (after you make sure you’re doing a great job at the products and services you provide), is to understand, at a deep level, who your perfect clients are, and what they want and need from you.

You went into this work to help people. Even though you might want to help everyone, you have to be specific about who it is you want to, and are most effective at, helping the most. Be ruthless about this. Who are you drawn to? Elders? Athletic boys between the ages of 12-18? Pre-menopausal women? Who are your perfect clients? Healers are lucky; to be an effective healer you intuitively know many things about your clients already. Take that knowledge you already have and talk to your clients to gather the rest. You need both the demographic information about them (things like their age, where they live, level of education) and psychographic information (what they like to do for fun, their attitudes about healing and medicine, what they read, who else they go to for help, and lots of other questions).

The second step in building your practice is to understand how to draw more people to you. Healing professions rely on trust. Although you could run an ad in a local newspaper, or show up to a networking event and hand out your cards, or even cold-call prospective clients (kidding, this is a bad idea); people go to healers because they trust them. And the best way for someone to trust you as a healer, is if someone else your client trusts, recommends you.

Now that you know your clients deeply, ask yourself: who else do they work with? Other healers such as acupuncturists, massage therapists, chiropractors, or? Where do they shop? Do they exercise at a specific place, or buy their food at a certain store? The most effective way to build your practice is to work with other people who also work with your perfect clients.
Visit the people your clients also work with and see if they would be willing to refer their clients to you (and vice versa: you would also refer clients to them). Use your intuition here also; you will only want to refer your precious clients to people you trust implicitly; the same is true for other practitioners and businesses. They will only want to refer their clients to people they trust.

The best referral relationships are ones based on deep mutual trust. These relationships need nurturing and communication to thrive, just like any other relationship that’s important to you.

Get deeply acquainted with your clients, and enter into meaningful referral relationships with other businesses. These are the two primary keys to success in the healing professions.

Running a Reiki Practice – Accepting Payments

Once you start either giving reiki treatments or teaching reiki, whether on line for distance healing or attunements or live, you need some form of system for accepting payments. If you are just starting, have a small practice, and want fewer worries you should start by accepting cash. Be clear with clients before the treatment that cash is the payment method, and keep careful records of the cash income for tax purposes.

If your business expands you can looks at various POS systems (point of sale), including check verification systems and credit card systems. Paypal is one way of working with this, but there are many other decent systems out there.

Uses for Reiki

Something that many people are not clear about regarding Reiki is that at heart Reiki is a daily self-practice that keeps is grounded and in tune with the Universe. Only when we as practitioners are healthy and grounded can we really be useful to our clients. I have actually crosses paths with people attuned through Reiki II who never really practice on people at all, only themselves and their life situations.

In my opinion the primary use of Reiki is for maintenance of self. Then for sending to others. One can also use Reiki energy to clear and heal animals, homes, the planet, and anything else you can think of.

Signs That Smack Ya Over the Head

Inspired by my Twitter and Facebook friend Amy Oscar, I started asking the angels for signs. Signs that would knock me over with bluntness, signs I could easily recognize. You see, life has been a little crazy as of late. My article writing job that I've had steady assignments from for two years has abruptly ended after the transfer of the articles to another company. The new company isn't adding content. So the writers and editors have all been dismissed. Time to find new supplemental sources of regular income...fast. I feel more in need of guidance than ever. As most of you know, my husband recently started a new job after nearly 8 months of being unemployed. We have lots of recovery to do, bit by bit. The income I bring in is essential. So although it comes from many different sources, when one drops, another needs to fill in where that came from. And I need to find it.

So interestingly enough, nearly two weeks ago I had an idea for a business and I approached three companies about it. They signed on immediately. It's a side thing, but could get bigger. I know I need a website, one that looks more professional than one I could do myself. And last night I was chatting with my sister online and I told her about it. She immediately volunteered her boyfriend's services. I had no idea about this, but apparently he is a graphic designer who designs websites and logos, and he will do this for me free of charge. Good timing, seems like. Okay, perfect timing.

Last night I was driving to do a Reiki demonstration at the local wellness center where I teach Reiki courses, CHEMAM and as I drove I was again asking for guidance. When I got home, I went on Twitter and my friend Krystal who does Oracle readings, said out of the blue that the angels were telling her to do a reading for me and she'll email me this weekend. I was surprised (read - knocked over the head), and told her I had just been asking for guidance. She said that's why they contacted her to email me. I'm eagerly awaiting the message, but felt like I had been responded to already.

Although I can't hear whispered guidance (yet), and really need to schedule in daily meditation time, I do think that Amy is right. Ask, keep asking, and things will happen. I seem to be landing in the right place at the right time lately, so I'm taking these events as signs that I'm getting where I need to be. It's a journey for sure.

Reiki As A Career

When most people list their favorite careers, I do not often see mentions of Reiki, Pilates, Fitness, or any of the things I happily do for a living. Interestingly enough, the Fitness Industry and personal training have been named as a continued big growth area for new jobs, and I know many people who make a good living through Reiki. Sometimes you just have to look off the beaten path and see what's out there.

I love this as what the director says is that patients seem to do better and feel better quicker when receiving Reiki - just perfect! Again, if it works and makes people feel better with no negative side effects, what's the problem?

Reiki Is Not Ancient

It’s either modern (a practice started by Mikao Usui in the 1920s in Japan), or it’s timeless (if by Reiki, you mean the unified field, source, primordial consciousness, pure awareness, great mystery, whatever you call that all-pervasive, unending reality to which we connect when we practice Reiki).

Running a Reiki Practice – Insurance

While Reiki does seem to be so benign as to not require liability insurance, do not be surprised at the willingness of many people to litigate even without real cause. Anytime you are providing professional healing services of any form you must be properly insured, even if someone falls in your bathroom after a treatment! There are many websites that offer free insurance quotes, plus you can check into any Reiki organizations that may offer group rates.
